His birthday and I get a glass of wine

Today is my husband’s birthday. He has on more than one occasion said he wanted nothing done. No dinner of his choice, no gifts, nothing. As it is written so it shall be – or will it?

I come in the door from work to be handed a glass of wine and told that dinner was nearly ready. Huh? I nearly go back outside to double check the house number. What happen to the birthday person being catered to? Ends up he feels badly about the fact they (he and my son) were busy mounting the new tv while I cooked half of my birthday dinner 9 days ago. He has also taken care of dishes and a load of laundry before I got home.

Now to the gifts that weren’t suppose to have been.

First my daughter (aka #2) leaves a gift and card on the kitchen counter, right where dad will see it when gets home from work. It is a 3 pack of Dallas Cowboy Christmas ornaments. Next, my son (aka #1) comes home from work, bringing the office with him. His 18 wheeler cab is parked out front. He gives dad a 3 pack of Texas Longhorns ornaments.

I comment how no one seemed to have listened to his wishes and he gruffly answers “yeah”. With that, I hand him my wrapped package. Now he is really mad and I tell him to just open the package. He is moaning and groaning and then he sees what he got. He is ecstatic. I have given him what has to be one of the top ‘male’ movies ever.

“Mel Brooks Blazing Saddles”

I of course an no longer in trouble and he is happy with the world once again.
